ducks, beaver kits, swans and crocus week (3/52)

the quiet stillness of swaths of brown, beige and grey

are broken with sudden appearances of rich purples

deep greens and dashes of yellow as the land awakens

on the water the soft chatter and splashes of beaver kits playing

are overrun by squawking, honking and beating wings as ducks,

geese and mute swans vie for mates and nesting sites

the turmoil passes as quickly as a fast moving thunderstorm

as a feather floats by on the smooth, still surface of the lake
