large flocks of blackbirds have departed
leaving a few pairs sprinkled about in
grassy island hummocks hoping for sanctuary
from stealthy egg stealing beasts as shrill calls
of peeper frogs pierce the warming air
providing background music that rivals
vibrantly rising skunk cabbage spathes
and the fragrant fireworks blooms of witch hazels
Wow!!! I love those images. At first, I thought the whatever beast it is was your arm, tattooed, in a bullroarer-like posed photo! (I really do need to get a life.) We still don't have any color but green, not "but" in a bad sense though. It looks so beautiful against the snow and dried grasses. In anticipation of what's to come, I bought a teen-aged cherry tree that is being shipped. Said to have delicious cherries you can eat right off the tree! I think we won't have any for a few years, but I am so looking forward to that. I'm going to plant it outside the bathroom window down on the flat. It's still a sunny spot.…
