sage, dill and deep rooted milkweeds
revel while the lindens, maples
and nearby oaks stand sullen
having quieted their greens
weeks and weeks of no rain
feet coated in a fine dust of dry earth
grass faded to beige softly breaking
with each step as we search the sky
hanging a wish for water
on the tip of the crescent moon
