blanket of crusty snow
slipping over rocks
wetting bits of leaves
finding spaces to travel
deeper and deeper into
the still frozen ground
reaching thirsty roots
eagerly pumping life up
sun-warmed trunks reaching
bare branches swaying
to a rhythm of renewal
