September 9 - September 12 Week 28/72
a few goldfinches remain quietly snatching seeds
from brown, spiky seed heads pointing to the fading light
cool, clear air allows the fee-bee and then hey, sweetie
call of the black-capped chickadee to drift down
from the treetops into the dampening grass where
the first fallen leaves are gathering as caterpillars
become butterflies and a northern leopard frog is woken
from a nap by the raucous calls of a bold and brassy blue jay
