October 23 - October 27 Week 37/72

a rustling wind pulls the last remaining

leaves from the linden and maple tree branches

distracting from the sorrowful fact that

the crickets have suddenly fallen silent

riding the sweet scent of freshly fallen pine needles

hundreds if not thousands of raucous grackles

begin playing tricks on the eyes as they perch

like the missing foliage conversing loudly

creating temporary living canopies overhead
