September 18 - September 22 Week 30/72
this morning
far from here
the sun positioned herself
over the Equator
dancing equally with day and night
for the second time this year
heeding the call I follow the example
of a juvenile goldfinch perched and preening
on a sumac branch head turned to the east
of the milkweed nymphs huddling near the adults
on the surface of an upturned leaf
and move to the sun-warmed slate
soaking in the warmth of the waning sun
in the company of a ribbon snake
