pant legs, boots, then socks become

sodden from the heavy morning dew

weighing down spirits with the knowledge that

another growing season is coming to an end until

joy is rediscovered dangling patiently here

and there in parchment-like packages waiting

to be unwrapped and opened with care, some revealing

gifts of yellow-orange ground cherries while others

contain the stark yin and yang beauty of calypso beans

that slip out filled with dreams of seasons to come
