a book rests open on my lap
words left unread as my attention
is drawn away by the hovering
and darting of brilliant green
dragonflies in fast pursuit of tiny prey
even the harsh, explosive skeow
of an arriving green heron does not deter
them from the task at hand until
suddenly the hunters become hunted
one by one plucked from the sky
with stunning speed and accuracy
of the now silent heron
