September 23 - September 27 Week 31/72
at dawn
the great blue heron shared
lessons of leaning into the day
greeting it with the patience
of a woolly bear slowly setting out
seeking safe haven from the cold months to come
by midday
necklaces of goldenrod blooms draped about the yard
add a colorful garnish to bouquets of white asters
and the fading flower spikes of sacred basil
golden gems of color that will soon be secreted away
beneath a cloak of fallen leaves
in the still of the night
the Big Dipper provides comfort in
it's consistency as it pours encouragement
out onto the wings of migrating geese
flying unseen in the darkness while calling
softly to each other of the journey ahead
Why don't I proofread? Must be the FIRE ANT bites!!
Here we are again in parallel space!! My Viet Nam pals got together a couple of days ago for a camp-out in Linda's back yard. In the morming, we walked over to a bog lske on her property and there was your blue heron!!! Raking leaves later in the day, I saw your caterpillar. Waynmo has been mentioning the goldenrods I planted several years ago onnthe porch by the front door. Still, I will always think of this as the segment of gire ant bites!!! I ordered emu oil this morning.
