as the days become elongated
stretching sunlight across the hours
a shady edge of the lake provides
a welcome relief from the heat
raining down from a cloudless sky
floating in the deep shadows
are hundreds of sunny yellow cups
encircled with hearts of green
gently rocking on the water
singing out to their neighbors
spiky water lily clouds
suspended on threads
