April 30 - May 4

in the span of my hand

deeply notched purple petals

point to yellow centers

thickly blanketing the ground

while blinks of orange orioles

hazardously flash branch to branch

sending cascades of melodious

song raining down

I wish we would see the orioles, but as per, everything here is the same as what we are looking at! This is my first year with both white and blue phlox! Ours are brightened up with the reddest of red cardinals!
